Baller 😂 76' C10 Cheap Toy

Hey Steve....my buddy is frustrated with his RED.....are you frustrated with yours...LOL
He's sanding the chassis and said there was four or five coats of clear and at least five different colors.
No I sold it to a friend and we haven’t been able to get back to the track. Due to random bs. Rained out last attempt. Work the time before that and the track closed one time we were planning to go.
The friend is frantically trying to get his new (my old BBC) finished so he put it in. You cant seem to find any BBC heads these days. I had already sold off the heads I had on it to my nephew for his truck and I had got me a new set off another friend. So we have been looking for him some decent conventional heads. He ordered a set of Brodix new but they are months away so he is still looking for a set he can get on it now.
As for the dragster itself its going under the knife this winter to get a complete teardown fully inspected and updated bars where necessary.

I don't know if I should say, sorry or congratulations......LOL but from the looks of things, I think you're going to be busy with the new toy....

I get to crew chief the dragster anytime I want so I really didn’t lose it. As far as my truck im excited as this upped its game big time power wise. It is costing me more $ but hell if it was easy everyone would have one right? 😁

Not really much to update but figured I would mention for documentation reasons what is going on.

Ordered the crank today. It is a Ohio Crank from their ProMax series. 4.25 stroke 4340 deal. I got a pretty good deal on it as it is a crank they had pulled 2 dyno pulls with and it spun a rod bearing. They turned the crank its .010 now, but I am fine with that. Saved me a bundle on a crank that should under normal circumstances work at my power level.
I also picked up a set of 6.385 Manley H Beam rods from a friend today. Brother did a swap of some other parts for the rods. Having a good brother is awesome. Anyway these are rated at 1200hp that should take care of my max 6500 rpms no problem.
Been doing some research on the compression I want to shoot for to order the correct pistons. Probably order them soon.
Still on schedule to get cage installed in October. Trying to get pieces in place to work on brackets for ProCharger while there. Thats about it for now.

So the block was bored and I have acquired everything to assemble the short block. I took the crank yesterday to have the 2nd keyway cut into it. Also the crank pulley that came with my ProCharger was originally for a ford. So the 6 bolt pattern on my balancer did not match up with the ford pattern. Also the hole in the center of the pulley has no way to center, also it has a larger hole than the hole on the balancer. That requires a adapter to center the pulley to the crank and 6 new bolt holes. The same machinist doing the keyway is going to fix this for me as well.
The plan is once I get this crank back I hope to have the rings gapped and will be taking things to be balanced.

I thoroughly cleaned and painted the oil pan. Checked and measured to make absolutely sure the Moroso oil pump height will be correct with my pan. And it appears to be perfect. I then realized I will have to have the Moroso oil dip stick threaded bulkhead welded into it. Also a return oil line fitting from the ProCharger will have to be installed.

I am thinking of using a hydraulic roller cam. It’s the one engine component I haven’t nailed down as of yet. I need/want it to turn 6500rpms and I keep hearing that might be a issue with a hydraulic. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have several cams I can choose from that we have but they are all solid roller cams. So far the two cam recommendations I called and got I wasn’t thrilled about but I am sure would work. I may check a few other cam companies offerings.

Today I did get the block I had bored out and unwrapped. Put on a engine stand and spent a hour or two deburing it. Cleaned it up enough to put a quick coat of high temperature black paint on it.

The truck is still on schedule for October at the fab shop to get a full cage installed. We discussed options on things I may need. I wasn’t really thinking about a parachute but he seems to think its probably gonna need it. Also I was just going to use solid motor mounts but he also strongly suggested motor plates.

Small update.

Worked on cleaning the threads and installed the main studs. My machine shop prefers the caps to be installed and torqued to spec prior to arrival for a line bore check. Oh that is right I didn't mention the block was going back for a line bore inspection. It is just to be on the safe side since we installed studs.

I also went ahead and fitted the Canton windage tray as usual they typically need something modified to fit nicely. The holes circled in red all needed adjusting and the hole that goes on the oil pump stud had to be bent to match the angle of the oil pump and slightly elongated. I was not sure how well it would clear the Moroso oil pump either but that was not a issue al all.

Interestingly ARP had sent me a extra 1/2" 12 point nut. It was in the sealed bag with the entire set of 1/2" 6 point nuts. :dunno: And no its not the oil pump stud nut that is a 7/16 stud.

Looking good, BTW we have very different definitions of cheap lmao
Thanks for the kind comments. It will never be a heavy hitter unless I run it into something but I’ll have fun with it till then. 👍🏼

It spiraled on me a lot. I admit I had a weakness and its being exploited. But no worries once the bank account dries up this will come to a screeching halt. 😂
Its probably about to slow down anyway. Holiday season is coming fast. Ive put back $ to have the cage put in. But even that has spiraled as it wasnt going to get a full cage but it is now. The hp goals sort of dictated more cage.
Then he tells me I should just go ahead and get the chute mount done while he has it. 🙄 That progressed to motor plates. And I have yet to mention to him Im thinking about him making me a decent gauge panel. Oh and I forgot he is making my driveshaft.
Fuck its just money I cant take it with me might as well spend it. 🤣

Made a trip to the machine shop today. That's a 2hr drive for me one way. It was pouring rain all day and I think it makes people drive crazy. I did make it though. My block is finally ready. Freshly line honed and decked squared to the crank. My rods are a used set of Manley H Beams with ARP 2000 cap screws. I have no pictures of them now but they have been resized and new ARP 2000 cap screws. I am waiting on my crank to have the 2nd keyway put in it and then the rest goes to the machine shop to be balanced.

The crank should be finished soon I don't rush the people helping me on this. All that will do is either slow them down, raise the labor rate, or both. If you know what I mean. But I know he does very meticulous work and I like that. So I will be patient.

I have checked in on the chassis guy. He says he is almost ready for my truck. He stated this weekend or one day this coming week he will be calling for it. So I am excited about that. Its been a long wait but its almost here. I enjoy the build and watching/helping design and build this should be fun. Of course he may say that my truck frame is garbage and I will be back to square one. But I think it will do the job. I should have more to post once we get the truck in the shop and get started on it.

Here is a question for you guys. Should I have a FC Cage put in it? I just don think I would ever want it seeing how I plan to do some street miles. On the flip side I know safety is a good thing. Hopefully the truck will be fast but will it be FC Cage fast I don't know where that line is actually.

Did a little checking clearances and mocking up today. Not much else accomplished as of late I have the parts now just looking for work to slow down a little. Still haven't got the cam and lifters yet. The cam is finished he is waiting on the lifters. Also expecting the call any day to bring the truck to get the cage installed. Not sure if I mentioned it but the fab shop guy lost a close family friend unexpectedly and so he has had a understandable delay getting to my truck.

Tomorrow after work the truck officially enters the shop to have its cage installed.

Its possible we will get the rings filed this week. I have all the pistons on the rods waiting. The crank is in the block but will need to come out. There is one very small spot that the factory machining stopped leaving just a 1/8th of a inch piece that is less than .005 from touching a throw on the crank. Will just take a touch with a grinder to get it some room.

I got a oil deflector for the back main to keep oil from supposedly sloshing up there so bad. As usual it had to be made to clear everything. I did a trial fit the windage tray and it seems all that will be ok.

I got the oil pump depth figured out and had ordered a spacer for it. It came from these guys at Island Racing Service. Nice guy I spoke with and pretty fast service. He said they sell a bunch of these. I didnt know these oil pumps were that popular. Anyway it came in today. Its that silver aluminum piece just below the screen.

Truck is at the shop. He figured it would be next week before he actually started working on the cage. He is going to get it all level and squared up and ready to be worked on in the next few days.

And in case you missed it in the lifter discussion thread I received my new BAM Steel dlc bushing lifters today. Thanks again
