Baller 😂 76' C10 Cheap Toy

Well actually no. I understand the number of projects issue.
1. Trying to help get my parents moved from a place they have lived 30 years. They collected a lot of stuff. Hopefully tomorrow is my last load.
2. My brother and his wife are moving to our land soon. Their loan was just approved. They got a used manufactured home that needs some attention. And we are in the last stages of designing and picking a builder for our shop. Cant wait for this. :D
3.The dragster I’ve spent my spare moments working on building the engine and trailer. Down to waiting on heads at machine shop to be finished. Yesterday we did a very small amount of welding on the trailer adding the piece for the ramps to sit in on the back when driving on.

The plan for now is possibly this coming Saturday to try and get it in the shop and do some final welding on the rear suspension and get the cage in. It has been agonizingly slow progress.

Made some progress. Still need one more bar between front 4 link brackets. I didn't have any pipe small enough but I have some ready to pick up Monday. We got all the 4 link suspension fully welded and all the coil over mount is fully welded. My plans for tomorrow got canceled so we are planning to mount the hood Dzus tabs. Also plan to get the disc brakes mounted on the rear. Possibly get the bed back on it and start looking at the cage if everything else goes flawless, we know that isn't happening. :ROFLMAO:
List is getting smaller. Still need to finish wiring. Put the Lexan back glass in. Need to have a driveshaft built. I'm sure there is more but those are the bigger ones at the moment.

Got the hood mounted today. Nothing fancy but I like the old school look with the aluminum disc. These just help distribute the pressure and I like the look. This is a race weight 6” hood and it is thin. Fit was pretty decent considering the age of the truck, 2 reproduction fenders, and two amateur installers. ;)
I didn’t get a picture of it but the hood has a lip along the front edge so we made a slot that you slide the hood into as you lay it down. We are hoping this works so we don’t have to put Dzus on the front. Thise tabs would be real painful to have to lean over when working under the hood. We will see we may have to add Dzus anyway after some tests.

I’ve got a Harwood that uses factory hinges and latch. The rear center gets to dancing pretty good at 100. Wish I had just bought a pin on tho.
I almost glassed in a piece of aluminum along the bottom on each side and used the factory hinges (take the springs out) and fabricated them to this one. I would have still used Dzus around the edges as a locking means. I thought it might be nice to be able to have it still attached on days I was alone. I decided against it I am hardly ever alone when I'm needing the hood open/off. I can do it alone but if it is windy it could get sketchy real fast. :chuckle: This hood is extremely light weight (maybe 15lbs) and it wouldn't take much to send it flying.

Ill sure be watching for the dancing and any other signs of it coming loose.

None of my junk is up to par for you high rollers. I like looking at your nice rides and watching your builds. My junk will get laughed off here but Ill show ya my last project my brother and I bought. We bought it to flip but now its going to be a toy unless someone wants it and shows to much cash to us. Which probably wont happen but sounded good to say. :ROFLMAO:

Yes it has rust yes it is heavy and will be slow. Yes its needing a lot of work but its ours and we are going to jam a 496 / th400 and a 9" in it. Then weld a simple cage in it and go play. This might take a few months. Hope no one is in a hurry for posts and pics. We work in our spare time as $ allows.
I don't have pictures of it in the condition it was in when purchased. It had no front clip and no interior and a full bed of junk. So we did clean it up found the correct year front clip although it is rough.

UPDATE! I did find pictures of it shortly after we bought it but had already been cleaning junk out and off it. The guy that had it was "making a drag truck" :omg:
We stripped everything out of it. We wanted a fresh start as nothing had in our opinion been done in a good way.

The belts were from the 80s :larf:

The big areas of orange you see is because the truck was painted bright orange at one time. Just in case anyone thought that was the rust. It has some rust but its actually quite solid compared to many cabs of this year. The bed is virtually rust free but the wood floor is well gone. My brother found us the pretty damn decent tailgate. We aren't going for perfection on the body but would like a new right front fender its pretty rusty. We will see how that ends up.

I cant say I recall that movie but I will check into it. Always like a good car chase.
This was my truck in high school that went through many transformations. Just don't have pictures to show but this one. Anyway this was the one that was my first wheels and was the driving idea behind doing this truck now.

Excellent!

Perhaps you recall the 1977 K-10 Cheyenne Stepside in "Red Dawn 1984"

If not, another movie you can enjoy!

Set the shocks and springs up for a starting point. Mounted rear flexible brake line. Tried to purchase my hard lines to go out to the rear wheels but Saturday after noon on a holiday weekend sources are limited. Got the bed back on it. Mounted a copy of my original trucks front plate to my fiberglass bumper. (USA 1).
If work goes good tomorrow we may try and start on the cage. We are thinking about not doing tall uprights out of the bed. Not sure yet how we are going to do the supports but like the more subtle look. Things to ponder. :D

Shit plan change!

Turns out my brother who was going to install the cage is to busy. And the one local guy that we know, trust, and can afford cant get to it till October. So I got on the list. Now its going to get more cage than the small one I was originally getting. So that is a positive as far as safer.

In the mean time I had already known I needed more power. 🤪 And have spotted a ProCharger I may be acquiring that is still in the works but if not I may do some turbo(s). Either way I will be getting something to add a little more pep to the old girl. I had already dropped off a block at the machine shop last week and they called today to say it was ready. Cleaned up at .030 so I have a little meat left on the cylinder walls.

Pulled engine from 76 C10 today. Change in plans to make it more streetable and faster at the same time. Already sold the short bock as the large dome pistons aren't really conducive to pump gas. Hell I don't know exactly what I am doing but hopefully it will come together. If I had money Id be dangerous or be like DHRDarren 😝

You don’t wanna be like Darren, he has a bad crank with a ring stuck on it.
