Baller 😂 76' C10 Cheap Toy

I put my hand over it and felt nothing. I looked at the plunger or whatever its called that opens and it looks like its staying shut. Just doesn't seem right. I will reassemble this valve by the book and see what happens.
Any pics of how it's installed and plumbed?

Sure thing.

Obviously the line coming from the 2" carb spacer just hanging out the front there not connected goes to the BOV.

Both PtroCharger and Bob at BruteSpeed sent me what I needed to reassemble this 100% correctly. Sadly what I thought might be the issue wasn't. The diaphragm was installed correctly. So I guess I'll install all the new stuff by the book and put it on and maybe a miracle will happen. If not I guess I get to see what else might be the issue.

Pic of BOV installed? Where it's located isn't a issue but how the BOV gets it's vac reference is. Also, how stiff is the spring and is the spring tension adjustable?

Basically how the BOV works is it relieves pressure between turbo/sc and TB/carb when you lift the throttle. Usually the bov gets a vac reference which pulls the diaphragm up off throttle to relieve and pressures the diaphragm with boost to hold boost. In order for the bov to open more when lifting you need good vacuum and a weaker spring. Having a 15lb spring you'd need a decent amount of s/c pressure to blow it open off throttle so it makes noise. Adjust or install lighter spring if the engine makes little vac at idle.

Does this make sense?

Yeah it does. Here it is installed with rebuild kit installed.

I'm pretty much doing it by the book. Its installed per what ProCharger says and the internet like @Anthony67 shares. My vac is coming from the correct place right under the throttle blades. Not exactly sure how much vac I'm making at idle though. But it doesn't really matter because the spring offered in these rebuild kits are a standard one size(pressure) and I don't know what that number is. According to Bob at Brute Speed the only adjustment is the same one no matter what on these ProCharger Race BOV leaving 2 to 2 1/2 threads exposed.

Maybe get a vac/boost gauge and see what you're making. On turbo cars the bov spring can be light enough to where the bov is pulled open slightly during idle which is why some are recirculated back into the intake.

Pretty sure you're bov is doing what it's supposed to you're just not making enough boost

OK this is some weird shit. For some fucked up reason at idle my bov is staying shut and when you give it throttle it opens. This thing is working exactly backwards.
I have video and datalog and the @Anthony67 rag test showing what I already knew was going on. This is crazy who could build this backwards but me.
As you can see the Black line is boost(the lack of) the pinkish purple is RPM.

As you can see in the video it is shut at idle and immediately opens when I give it throttle.
You put a rag over it and nothing happens idling or reving the engine?
The rag does nothing at idle just lays there. I touch the throttle and it blows it away with force.

vacuium gauge time 😄 the fuel pressure going up?

where are you getting your reference from?

reg ref should be hat bypess below carb / intake

He says: My vac is coming from the correct place right under the throttle blades.

off the carb base id relocate it, so many ports on carbs never know what the reference is from

blades at idle closed boost on top sees boost

secondaries may still be closed on a rev picking up a vac ref 🤷‍♂️

looked ad some vids and mine is closed or just off the seat at idle, certainly not "open"

I'm not real savvy with this stuff, but you said (I think?) that with a mech gauge that you are not seeing any boost. Maybe I missed it but have you ran it without the BOV. I would block it off and check to be sure if you havent already. Could you have a different issue. If it's not building boost with a rap of the throttle, something seems wrong.
Granted, I haven't read all 23 pages.
Plus, I have no hands on experience but if the procharger is geared and pullied correctly, shouldn't you see boost with BOV eliminated?
Just trying to help. Best of luck 👍

Just about to ask this!
I'm not aware of any second ports.

Yes the fuel pressure increases a small amount. The boost reference for fuel is coming off the hat and it does increase a little but I am not rapping this thing up high until I get this sorted out. I don't want to mess something up till I know the bov will open when the blades are shut after a high rpm hit.
I am getting my vac from a 2" spacer under the carb. Should be able to see it on this pic.

I have a manual boost gauge on it and this is correct it registers zero boost. Even the data log backs this up while I visually watch and feel all the boost coming out of the bov. This thing is making boost I can remove the intake pipe and its blowing like crazy. The bov opens big time when I touch the throttle and its gushing air out. You can hear the air blowing out. See the short video I posted below. The manual boost gauge is pulling from the intake so it wont read anything because when I gas it to make boost it all dumps out the BOV.
I don't have a way to block off the bov in the piping unless just pulling the vac line off and capping it would work. I'll try that tomorrow.

I saw that video, I would block it off and slowly increase rpm and check for building boost if me.
Everything pass that, is above my pay grade!

Ps The reason I'm commenting is I'd like to have a street car w a PC. I looked into them 15 years ago but kind of pricey . Having a kid kind of does that! 15 years later, I bought him a car for the price of a PC w a terminator setup!

My real issue isn't if its making boost. Its why is the BOV working backwards. According to ProCharger any time your on the throttle the BOV must close, off the throttle it should open, to be working properly. This is the only way it will ever boost the engine. Mine is doing the opposite. Anytime I touch the throttle it instantly opens the BOV. As long as the BOV keeps doing this it will never make boost.

I'm thinking of buying a new one just to eliminate this but I feel like a simple as this BOV is surely it can be fixed. I really don't want to spend $500 just because I cant figure out the one I have. :twitch:

Pretty sure I have one or 2 somewhere if you have time for mail

You need a vacuum gauge teed in get it at 4k and wack it

I would gladly wait for mail. Ill message you. Thank you.

I have vacuum gauge i just need to setup/program so it works properly. Ill try and get that done soon also.

Maybe change the vac/boost reference point to the intake manifold somewhere. I'd also have any vac/boost referenced item run off the same line... map sensor, bov, fuel pressure regulator
