***Post a MEME Thread***

Context works if you know the Bruce Highway in Queensland AUS

Same as the North South Corridor here in Spokane County. 20 years, 20 miles, and not a lick of pavement has been poured. I watched neighborhoods removed only to have barren land left to blow.

Democrats.

A few things come to mind:
The steam engine and jet engine.
The cavity magnetron which American military experts regarded as the "most valuable cargo ever to reach American shores".
General Groves, who hated the Brits, remarked that, without the British contribution, there would have been no Hiroshima.
Colossus knocked 18 months off WW2.
Going back a bit further, the guillotine works a lot better than the needle or chair.
The moon landings owe a bit to the Germans.
Rolls Royce and Aston Martin.
The P51 Mustang started off with a lawnmower engine but the Brits put in a Rolls Royce Merlin and turned it into one of the best fighters of WW2.

So....nothing since 1945?

So....nothing since 1945?
Lots of them.
Here are a few - Francis Crick was English & and, with American James Watson, shared the Nobel Prize for DNA 1953
The first accurate atomic clock 1953
High strength carbon fibre 1963
Higgs boson theory 1964
The Touchscreen 1964
First Lithium-ion battery 1976
First IVF baby 1977
DNA profiling 1984
Sir Tim Berners-Lee proposes the World Wide Web, specifies HTML & HTTP 1989
First SMS message over the UK's GSM network 1992
World's first national DNA database 1995
Dolly the sheep cloned 1996
Thrust SSC 1997
Graphene 2004
Trac Rail Transposer" patent 2005
SABRE (Synergetic Air Breathing Rocket Engine) 2016
Significant scientific contributions to European Space Agency

So a bunch of crap then thrust SSC. Got it

OK if that's all you can say but the essence is that they made a difference to the world and, irrespective of their country of origin, the inventors were all white; as has been the situation for the last thousand years.

I took a position with a company, everything is metric, should be fun to learn
It's much easier to do calculations in than Imperial, you can do them all on your fingers, don't know why folks are so proud of using it. For linear measurements 1"X25.4=mm is the magic formula to remember,
If you want to make an impression on an instructor, ask for the exact number for 1/3 or 1/6 of a metric unit. There isn't one.
Metric angle increments are called Radians. Radians have been around for a long time, the military uses radians for shooting solutions. No one has adequately explained why radians are not commonly used over degrees since metric is so much better.
As a machinist and designer, i find the metric threading system an abomination. Metric threads were formulated by a French priest with no consideration for the materials they would be used in. Other thread systems were developed over long periods to be optimized according to their application in the materials that they would be used in, that's why therre are so many and why they seem odd to a new user. Metric threads have comparatively huge gaps in their diameters and thread pitches especially in the smaller sizes, so we are forced to round upwards to avoid failures which is not optimum for high performance design.

Racist much? From what we're told now black people brought forth civilization

"black people brought forth civilization"
That is a very loose claim.
It's commonly accepted that modern humans originated in east & central Africa and migrated outwards about 100 000 years ago.
The reality is that the ability and intelligence of the inhabitants of Egypt, the Fertile Crescent, Asia & Europe evolved and grew while sub-Saharan Africans remained stagnant and undeveloped.

Sorry guys.
I never meant to derail the meme thread when I took Mark O'Neal's bait.
