Columnist for a Vancouver area newspaper was from ultra poor background in East Asia. She went back there before he grandmother died. Grandmother'd been moved into a town from the rural, so there was internet, so granddaughter dug out her laptop gave her a tour through the afternoon... of Google street view, the highway she'd come up from the airport, the airport, back to Canada, through the lower mainland to pull up in front of the grand daughter's condo building. Narration the whole way, then they broke off for grandma to make a meal.
After, she got very serious, a little uneasy, asked the grand daughter to bring out the laptop again.
"Can you bring up your grandfather on there? I have some things I need to tell him"
They both knew he'd died a few years earlier....

You aren't fixing the human (or the canine) condition with technology.
