Woes with a 2004.5 LLY Dmax repeated P0089 Fuel pressure regulator codes.

Nah, don't beat yourself up too much. You went at it the best you could. Trust me, there are many guys out there that have fixed these kinda problems by throwing parts, myself included. Bogus parts only add to the confusion.

You've done a hell of a job so far IMO(y)

And I never unhooked the A/C and it still works :lmao: 😬

The front tank I didn't take out but I cleaned the inside with a rag as far as my arm could reach.
Probably didn't get everything though, I SRGN mentioned there is baffles in it and nooks I wouldn't be able to reach.
Can you pump what's in there out and see what you get? I'd pump it dry if I could. But realize what to pump it in could be a problem. I have a couple 55 gal plastic barrels I use for diesel. I could bring one if needed. Also I saw where you added some Hot Shot. Even though someone didn't like how much you added, that amount might have helped loosen up some more crud.

I could pull the fuel filter and see how it looks.
When I was doing the return rate tests the fuel looked nice and clean.
Nothing like it looked previously.

At this point I'd rather see the tank contents. But won't hurt to look at the filter I suppose. You've changed it a few times now...how'd it look then?

Last one I took off looked pretty good, fuel was clear.
I did get some clear line yesterday so I can put that on and check for air.

I'm guessing with all the miles you put so far, the fuel with the Hot Shot has been consumed?
Encouraging to hear the filter is clean, but still not convinced of anything yet. These Dmax fuel systems can cause some real oddball problems sometimes.

Definitely wouldn't hurt to verify no air, but if it starts so easy I kinda doubt you'll find any.

I have a gallon of Hot Shot and I put about half in it. I think ratio I used was 8 ounces to 20 dollars (like about 5 gallons)
Gonna be a while till that goes through the system.

Since I have had the truck I have put just about 1000 miles on it.

Madhawg, one of the things we did was bypass the connectors and wiring using t pins and jumper wires.

OP, since you have the scanner now, look at the injector flow rates and program them into both the ECM and the GPCM.

Good that you eliminated the connectors. I was also thinking about voltage dropping the grounds, especially for those 2 circuits.

Pretty sure he can't program the flow rates for that year unless it has an aftermarket system. They started doing that in 2006 IIRC

I'm not sure, have had a few of that vintage that I was able to program, and some that I couldn't. Some of the other stuff we checked was voltage, grounds, and AC voltage output from alternator to eliminate a failed rectifier. I did want to update him to the latest software, but I don't have a jumper harness for that PCM so I would have to have the vehicle to plug into. There was a lot of testing that we did, but the log was lost when DRP went down.

Interesting that you've done that year with the flow rates. Thought for sure it wouldn't run if they weren't there
What software do you have...GM or aftermarket? I thought he said its stock with no tuner. IF the flow rates need or can be installed, I can do it with my Tech2, providing he has the #s. Likewise with any GM software.

Would have been nice to look at the data you guys had at DRP

On second thought...scratch the comment about me getting GM software. I can program it no problem, but forget me getting any current software if available. I haven't tried, but GM changed the way its downloaded. They got rid of TIS and now you have to go through a new access called Tech Line Connect. You may have heard about it? Like mentioned, I haven't tried it but heard its a horror show...I haven't even bothered installing it since I no longer work.

I have aftermarket for diagnostic, but also use GM GDS for programming and "difficult" vehicles. I pay for access as needed, but usually don't need it for diagnostic. I program 2-3 GM vehicles a week on average. I'm wondering if the latest flash added the capability for flow rates since we're talking about it, or if I'm off a model year on the one I'm thinking about. I do programming and diagnostic as a side business, so I do enough vehicles to mix stuff up in my head.

Yes, techline connect since about November or so. It's really not bad, for programming it's still $40/VIN for 2 years of access. TIS was easier, but I need to do a bunch of programming. I use a Drew Cardaq M, program everything except Nissan, Mercedes, and 17+ VAG (I won't buy the software).

Good possibility the latest & greatest allows flow rates to program. I may have to dig into this more and see about installing the Tech Line Connect.

Curious about you saying you can program with GDS. For us that's only used for data access and diag...basically the tool that replaced Tech2 but an interface called the MDI is needed. But maybe that's changed too...haven't looked lately. Another thought is since you pay for access, GM does it different for guys like you.

I'm running late and don't want to be rude...I'll check back later for any replies

I should have clarified, I only use GDS for diagnostic. I had an old MDI, but pretty much every manufacturer approves the Drew interface, so I use it exclusively now. GM and Ford are the easiest. I even do Volvo, it's a lot of homework, but really isn't bad once you figure it out. Mopar stuff is a headache, and expensive. Once you go to the Drew interface, it's hard to go back to the MDI or even a Ford vci. It's much easier to carry around one interface than several. The Autel scanner used to be able to do a lot of programming, but they removed stuff over the last year or so. You can still do as built on Ford with it though.

Ah, ok...you threw me a curve at first thinking you can program with GDS now.

WOW!! Just looked up the Drew Interface...$$$$$ but what isn't with all the tech today.

So I'm guessing for programing you don't have to use GM's TLC for programming? I know from my old coworkers and the guys on GM's tech forum, the TLC is a total cluster. They have a daily bitch fest about it with over 1K posts. Most problems with programming through TLC are errors, freeze up or system crash. Many times requires TLC to be dumped and reinstalled to get it to work. It's even been so bad at times that GM's TAC dept remotely puts TIS back on a Techs PC in the shop and they use that to program. But the after its done they remove TIS from his machine...WTF! Why not just leave what works instead of reinventing the wheel. Fkrs don't trust us anymore than we don't trust them. One of the reasons TLC came to be supposedly, is so GM can closely monitor everything last thing we do. In the 5 years that I've been gone, I SMH over what the guys in the shop deal with everyday.

Since my old boss hasn't shut me off yet, I still have full access to everything. Might just decide to install TLC and get a taste of what it is and how it works.

All greek to me.
