Scrapping Kinda Sucks

So a contact i have hooked me up with multiple clean outs/demos and got some good stuff :)

Today in one of the places, i notice I'm stepping over a clear bag with a large BBC. I think LOL this will be good for a prank :)

Then later after i finish up i dropped off one box to my neighbor of some stuff, that I know he'll use but he was working(tech support), so it was a quick stop.

Now later I'm 1.5 10% beers on a not eaten all day stomach and I'm rem that BBC and did not see it unloading!

Thankfully not in that box but i had to declare, I'm 100% straight and need to check the box i gave him.

Thankfully not there, n he did not go thru it yet(no misunderstanding) and I'm sure it'll be a good story for him LOL

Still idk where it is, swear i put it in a box???

The jokes are writing themselves here, but I'm gonna leave it alone. 😄🤣

I was searching for a wheel lock key in a customer's car and came across a vibe in the driver's door panel pocket. It was funny to me, and I started goofing around, walking towards co-workers with it pointed at them.. Just dumb shit guys do in shops to entertain. Anyways, I put it back in the door pocket and had to go ask the customer where the key was. She started looking through the car and the vibe started vibrating loudly in the door pocket. The look on her face, holy shit! She grabbed it and put it in her purse. Never did find the damn key though.

Today was payday.
39 wheels/980 lbs. (bunch of lightweight GM truck 16s)
Price was down $0.02 ($1.48 vs. $1.50)
$1,450 cash money. :)

I have this set left over that I didn't scrap. They are off a 2023 Nissan Titan, and they are minty.. I put them on MP for $400, I gave $80 for them.

90% of what i got yesterday was alum siding. So decided to sleep on, if i should take it in the next morning or unload like my other partial loads. And then after this job ends, build some sides, to take in a larger load. Woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep, so went early and got $247 for 380lbs. Had to run some errands out that way anyway.

Prob could of got a better price at a diff yard but meh, I'll go the other way when this job is done. IDK how much more I'll get, when i take the new from this job pile in, plus the stuff i already had from before. But it should be good :)

I saw an opportunity a couple weeks ago of some non functioning heavy equipment. It sold for under 20 grand but there was probably 400 + tons . A D11 cat a D10 cat a big Komatsu dozer an excavator and some other big stuff .the moving it was the downfall. There were bonus items like the radiators that you might have sold separately to make even more . And it was not far from me
Logistics was the downfall

400 tons?!
I ain't the smartest guy so maybe check my math. 🤓
A yard by me is $210/ton. That's $84,000 gross.
Minus the buy - $20,000. That's $64,000 left to spend.
Logistics was the downfall
Any idea what getting that equipment hauled woulda cost?
It couldn't possibly come close to $64,000... or could it?

There was a youtube scrap yard owner, that said he was gonna scrap crane truck he bought for like $1200(if i rem right). He had offers of 2k or so but then made a short explaining it was 70,000lb and at 10 cents a lb worth $7k BUT really they'd BUY it for that and since he owned the yard. He SELLS the 70,000lbs of metal(even if only steel) for more than $7k

I mean fuel, labor and equipment ain't free ;)

Well he'd prob haggle any sellers down for the bulk size LOL and most would be happy to get $3-5k, if he picked it up.

[edit] Just like when i had my complaint, the guy who came out was like, "Aren't their people who will buy your scrap vehicles?". My reply was, yah at next to nothing or some they would try to charge me to remove. For example my 4x4 truck i bought for the engine and already sold the trans/xfer case, there is nothing of value left. Sure I can get $300-400 in scrap, if i haul it in But no1 is gonna give me more than $50 to haul it away LOL

I lost money having to haul stuff in w/o getting the time to process or take it in larger loads. The complaint cost me an estimated $1200 in various forms.

So, BOOT.. you're saying..

1. Buy 440 tons of broken equipment. (FFF's example)
2. Make a deal with a yard that works for both of you.
3. You walk away with clean hands and fat pockets.
4. The yard has to deal with removing their scrap.

I like it.. Especially the fat pockets and clean hands part. :)

It would have taken a crane a truck load of oxi and map gas or something similar . And hauling trucks . I know it take 3 semis to haul a new D11 and it takes a crew to assemble. The real money could have come from the rads and other reusable bits . I bet the rads are worth big money hydraulic cylinders , computers and other assorted pieces .and few pieces off each could be worth as much as the scrap total . You can think big or eat peanuts . If I still lived in the indy area and had the connections I had there I might have gone for it .

Probably a easy $10k each to move if you don't have the hauling equipment. If you had the space to part out anf the equipment to haul then it'd be a no brainer

Today was payday.
Wheels are up $0.02 ($1.50) since my last trip.
38 wheels, 1,060 lbs.
860 lbs. at $1.50
200 lbs. at $1.19 (chrome 22s)
$1,528 cash money. :)

Side note.. When I was at the yard, I could hear cars running at Gateway. I drove there on the way back and the place was absolutely packed with trailers. They are having 'The Million Dollar Race' there all week long.

Been busy and looks like this may go on for a bit longer. Not that I'm complaining. Some days are better than others but it's steady, low fuel cost and better type scrap mostly. Still idk if I'll have time to get all my other plans I wanted to do this fall done before winter. Oh well :)

Not scrapping but I'd told my wife to watch for some cast weights to use for ballast on my racecar at flea markets or garage sale she goes to. She called me and said she found some 5# and 10# pound weights. 5x10# and 4x5# so 70# total. I asked her how much she wanted and she said $10 so I was pretty surprised and said get them. The lady heard me and said "well maybe I should ask more" but ended up selling them to her. Told my wife they were worth a lot more than $10!

I find rusty weights now n then, plates or dumbells. Scrapped most, as i didn't want to move them around too much but saved a few for what-if projects. Like some of the bigger plates or nicer dumbbells. One plate i want to use for weight in a vise stand base I'm gonna build, out of a half semi wheel i just got. Already have a bus brake drum stand but this is wider, so idk if I'll keep it or sell/gift once done.

LOL i found a couple plastic dumbbells, went to pick one up and it was much lighter than expected(no holes or dmg). Figure someone was using it for instagram fake influencer BS! Saw a vid bout props being sold to influencers awhile back, fake weights tho usually they look cast. I've had some of the real plastic ones, so i know they have some weight and the 2nd was normal. It was an eviction, as all their shit was put out to the road :ROFLMAO:

Fake weights is all good until Kenny KO shows up and dares you to lift real ones!

Still working this demo thing(getting good scrap) and had to knock on a door and ask who's shed. This chic answered, pretty face, skinny but a nice butt, wearing all black, with long black hair, no bra but perky breast and large pointy nipples. Been thinking bout those nipples all day :)
