Scrapping Kinda Sucks

Michigan sucks for their supposed zoning laws. I know two guys who the local government tried to pull the old "too much junk laying around" routine. It cost both guys lots of time and money for no reason.

One of the guys had a bunch of old cars (all collectable, in various states of repair) around his house and none were visible from the road. The township made him remove most of them, which he did by trailering them to a local storage yard, where he had to pay a monthly lot fee. But then they came back some months later and wanted him to move his trailers, hoists, truck lifts and a few remaining cars. But he refused and then the township hired some guy to come "clean it out" and he showed up when my buddy wasn't there and took everything outside not nailed down. There was a couple of nice cars sitting there that they took.

All of the neighbors were on my buddy's side, except the one cunt who lived up the road who was one of the township supervisors, she was the instigator. The next election cycle they voted her out. And her husband was selling tractors from the front lawn of their house - sometimes the tractors had questionable origins, so "somebody" started disappearing the tractors overnight...

Well from what i herd/observed it's not just me. Too soon tah be conclusive as to their motives. Why i didn't waste time and not sharing my complete plans. Also why I'm not throwing money at it. Gonna suck if they wanna try n make this town an HOA type, been pretty chill forever. But so far all they asked, is what i wanted to do anyway. I'll keep at it and again do what I wanted, just at a faster pace.

I just gotta find reliable n reasonable priced help. That's why it looked bad to them, i had dragged out several vehicles to get rid of them but got overwhelmed in other areas. If i had the help, the ones i moved out of the way, would of been tucked back long ago. But my help is always in a hurry and not available but 2-3 times a year. Need to get out n meet new people LOL

Had a guy lined up to and was gonna give him $100 tool for 2-3hrs but then he was like 1hr. Told him nm, another guy too busy(understandable) and another wants $50 an hour. I don't have any friends and need to find reasonable hired help(edit: that i trust enough to have around my property).

Still technically I don't even have a deadline yet, we'll see what they say here soon.
Still trying to find out why i didn't get a letter or if i have a deadline, seems no one knows.
Whatever you do, try to stay ahead of it. You definitely don't want the city getting on your ass. Once that happens, it's game over.. You won't be able to spit without them complaining that it didn't dry up fast enough.

Can they actually do that? In a non HOA neighborhood, who would even support that? Any neighbor that would support starting it would have to be insane.

Go figure, someone in gov't was complaining about the infractions while they were doing the same exact f'n thing. Nothing surprises me anymore. I'd bet money the scumbags were actually in cahoots with the storage yard too.

So between the holiday, the heat, and my birthday, I decided to take a couple weeks off. I went back to work last week and got myself a much needed payday today.

I only had 29 wheels. One set was heavy as shit, though.. 188 lbs. They were off a HD Chevy p/u and they made my week.
800 lbs. / $1.55 per.
$1,240 cash money.

I also sold a set of like new GMC Truck center caps for $105.
Center caps are becoming a nice side hustle to the wheel hustle.

<rant>Dealing with some of these a-holes on MP is getting on my last nerve. I set up deals with them, and when I try to arrange a place/time to meet, they disappear. This is happening a lot lately. I actually had a guy.. The deal was set, and he went silent. I messaged him back the next night and asked if he was gonna be around.. less than a minute later, dude replies 'yea, I'll be home all night'. I respond, 'cool, I just need your address and I'll leave right now'.. Then, crickets. !@#$% !!</rant>

Officially, those Michigan code enforcers have to send you something official in the mail. Verbal warnings are as good as used toilet paper.

When i was a kid, my dad would take me with him to this old dudes house(still drive by it but due long gone) and he had ALL the hubcaps. I mean his garage full of sets and nice ones or rare. Piles of them out back. My dad would buy missing ones or sets, for the cars he was selling.

MP is weird sometimes, I'd had good luck mostly but yah some people suck.

They sent the new town cop/sheriff(we've not had one for awhile) that said they were gonna bring a dumpster. He was the typical dick cop and i wasn't gonna argue with him. Asked him a few questions(he didn't know and told him, I'd talk to the town and did the next day. Speak as little as possible to the police, what you say can be used as evidence and a judge will always take their word over yours. This guy is not gonna be popular, compared to the long list of previous sheriffs.

The only other time i had a complaint long ago, i got a letter. So it was weird they sent a cop but so far it seems, I am doing what they want(also what i want).

Holy hell, how pissed would you be if you came home and found a dumpster and city workers loading up your stuff! Knowing my temper, I'd probably flip my shit on them and come within an inch of going to jail.
Tomorrow is gonna be my first day off in over two weeks :)
Hey, man - Hope you got in some much needed rest. I know you've been needing some.

Oh and he said they'd put the cost on my taxes LOL

Why i kept asking questions from the town and let them know, I'm not broke and know enough bout what should be done first(years ago past notice). They have to send a letter(no clue on time frame tho). Still i felt he was trying to provoke me, why i only briefly talked to him, calmly asked a few questions and let him know I'd contact the town for more details. The more unresponsive i was, the worse he made things seem.

I still worked outside a little this morning and gonna do a bit, when it cools down to mid 80's. My one neighbor is still on vacation, so that means i got an extra trash can to fill :) With his permission of course.

[edit](prob wind but looked funny the first time) Oh and someone flipped up the tarp, that I put over stuff in the bed of truck by my garage. Did that to keep leaves n debri from collecting in the box but also looks a bit better.

Still gotta finish painting my window, one guy thought i was trying to hide seeing inside my house LOL yah because I'm dumb enough to cover the outside and not inside where no1 can mess with it. But i do like the privacy it has for the large picture window. If i wanna walk around in my underwear(same reason i pull the door blinds). After it comes down, I'm adding a vertical blind or curtain that only lets the top 1/3 be open. That window has always been too Big!

Also that window tarp either came loose on one end or someone pulled it back.

I draw the line at inside my house, they can Fuck off!

Found this 24" fan awhile ago, plugged in and made noise but saved to try n fix. Needed a shim between the blade and housing to stop rubbing(used, so extra play). Because of that fan, tore apart 50 or so vacuums in this 90+ heat. Well beer helped but got a pile of plastic trash.

Last week i got the cans(neighbor on vacation lets me use his) filled early and put them out with my free weekly bulk item(have to schedule). The first 5 weeks( i have several mostly plastic washer drums and took 4 to a friends), they picked up bulk on normal trash day but I knew from the past times, sometimes they pick up bulk a day early. So last week, they took/emptied the two cans with the bulk item AND i filed them back for for norm trash day. Hoping i get 4 cans emptied this week again :)

Is there an apartment complex near you?

I (somehow 😉 ) have noticed that they always seem to have big beautiful dumpsters. Usually, no one is around - and people that are around don't give a shit anyway.. A lot of trash can be eliminated in a hurry.

Not suggesting anything, j/s. 😀

One of my old neighbors(3 ago in that house) complained about paying $200 to haul off the concrete, from redoing a section of patio. I was like, I'd of just tossed it in the woods behind his house. He go so pissed when he realized the money he could of saved. Fuck him, he told the trash peeps, to not take the pieces of jetski i cut up that a friend left here. After i let him store stuff in my polebarn when he moved.

Some people are just SOB's, like one of my new neighbors down the road, a weak coward loser!

I did a little scraping today, two chassis, a cab a clip, a bunch of other stuff almost 4000#s.
Then I picked a bunch of good parts to sell on eBay.
A couple of steering column’s, a group 65 battery than is less than a year old, a couple vehicle cameras, a PCM’s, some bus mirrors that sell for $200 on eBay, a fire extinguisher that is still charged, and a bunch of other stuff all for $31. They sell it by weight, it doesn’t matter what it is.
So I got almost $500 from the scrap and picked about $2000 worth of eBay stuff.
Not to bad for a couple days of scraping.
Now I have to make another load for next week.

You're lucky. Our scrap yard here won't sell anything back out.

Back when I occasionally scrapped I only would go to a yard that let you buy back loose items.

But now no yards close to me allow that.

So I just give my scrap way to friends for free.

But free scrap backfired on a local guy when the scrapsters showed up with several helpers and made off with a car body he had sitting outside. That was end of free scrap for him, now he just throws it all in the dumpster.
