Scrapping Kinda Sucks

I'm about to cut some tires off some gm wheel that have so much tread and been sitting out back for so long that the date code is 2013 I was trying to sell them cheap on MP but no bites

I've ran alot of the $90-100ish tires off like amazon ebay on my fullsize truck. So depends what you were asking.

Wouldn't mind some cheap 17's alum wheels myself, since my WT has the steelies(2 spares i got for snow tires long ago). But chances are the alum wheels will be corroded bad on the beads, if they been in Mi their entire life and seen plenty of miles. My sis lived on a dirt road and her newer suv wouldn't hold air cause of bead corrosion. Seen it on several daily type cars, steel or alum wheels. LOL this one guy i knew got so tired of putting air in his tires. He debeaded them and slathered em with silicone, then aired em back up(never planned to change those tires again, junker).

Also i gotta figure out if the 96's 6 lug is same offset-b/s as newer stuff?

These are 6 lug off a 2003 1500 Walmart fuzion look like new 265 16 I was asking 40 $ just to try selling them if someone is hard up for good used tires

1620 lb in shred, my biggest load yet and close to max capacity. Goolge says my truck is 1670 lb max but I'd assume that is a full tank and with a passenger to be safe. I was on fumes and no passenger but still had my norm empty weight. Tho they messed up and tried to pay me for 620 lbs LOL I had to pull back on the scale, to show them that they was 1000 lbs off!!!

I was targeting 1200-1400 but long as i wasn't overloaded and why i wanna get the GMC 2500 fixed. This is why I'm pretty sure the
Fenton yard scale is BS, I always underestimate my load and they were the only time i was 200lb over estimated. And they screwed me on the math for my payout.

Yea, I get it.

I have bought so many Jeep wheels. Sets of 5 with brand new spares and decent tread on the other 4. I tried selling them, no body wants them. I stopped even considering selling them. I just cut 'em, toss the tires, and put the wheels behind my house.

It's been a good week picking. I have 1,074 lbs. behind the house. I have a set of Pathfinder wheels I haven't cut yet, so they still have to get added to the total (est. 112 lbs.). It was my goal to go hard this week and get over 1,000 lbs., and I crushed it. Still have the rest of today and Sat-Sun to make deals if I can find some. I go to the yard on Monday.

Current stacks - some stacks you can't see because the front stacks are 5 tall, the back stacks are 4 tall.

I think some jeep wheels are 5x5 and so are the GMT400 obs trucks. But the hub diameter can be diff(too small), tho not always on aftermarket wheels(bought some jeep/gm 5x5 new clearance). So if you do get some cool wheels that are like 17's, might be worth trying to sell as gm truck wheels instead. If the offset isn't crazy or for offraod type use.

what do you do with all the tires you remove?

Damn, if i knew the Jeep/obs bolt pattern was the same Id'a tried them on my truck. I like how the Jeep 17" 5 spokes look, and I think they might look on my truck (as long as the tires are tall enough).. I have cut tires off Jeep wheels that are much better than what's on my truck now . I'll keep that bit of info in my back pocket. Thanks, BOOT.

There is a place just outside of town that takes them. Everyone knows to leave them outside the gate. I'm not sure what they do there, but there is a gigantic pile of junk tires, and several gigantic piles of rock. Huge buildings. If I didn't find out about this place I wouldn't be able to do this hustle with the wheels.

I saw a FB group post earlier.. There is a yard in Scranton, Pa that is paying $1.68 for wheels. When I read that my fucking jaw dropped! That's a full $0.30 more than I'm getting. Of course it's FB, so take it for what it's worth.

How long do you think this surge in prices can last?

Should last a long time aluminum has always been high but with the tariff and all the big 3 going alot more aluminum components its in high demand

Well you've found plenty so far and I'm sure you'll come across a lot more. Just rem to check the hub diameter, if the wheels are hub centric jeep is smaller. Why i said aftermarket wheels were more likely to fit.

Hopefully the free tire disposal last. I ruined the cut in half tire free disposal thing here LOL cut up too many. Not like anyone else was tho as most couldn't figure out how to(before the internet was big), so i don't see the problem. It was their rules.

Scrap is a learn as you go and wish I'd of sorted the stuff i took in more n got better prices long ago but hey i was young. I'll never like the haggling or price shopping around part of it tho.

Funny you say that, I picked up 3 more Jeep sets today (2 - 5s and a 4). Also got a set of phone dial Mustang wheels. I have a pick lined up for tomorrow (4 - 18" f-150s). If tomorrow's pick happens, I'll be approaching 1,700 lbs. for the week. I really can't believe how easy this has been (so far).
Your lucky to have the free disposal any time my county only has once a year and max 10 tires
It's a godsend. Without that tire disposal spot none of this would be possible for me.

Been cutting back my going out n collecting, less nights and shorter runs but still got plenty of scrap(a few unplanned pick-ups). So took last night off and gonna stay home tonight, prob tomorrow as well. Weather is bad atm, so it's not like i can work outside cleaning up my hoard but I'm also not adding anymore to it. I'll process some junk inside at least tho.

High fuel cost is the perfect time to cut back anyways, plus i want to make room for working on my truck. Gonna need to do some maintenance soon(u-joints n such). It's still a real mess from winter and i couldn't even get to my tools, before i started to clean out the garage recently.

I need to get better set up anyway, if i wanna scrap outside. Been storing a lot of totes(filled with random nonferrous) under my overhang awning type deal, ideally I'd organize them or move them to the polebarn but for now I want to clear that area, to put up some mesh for the bugs and set up a work area. Think i'll move them over to another spot n cover with tarps. Been getting too much sun as well, use my tailgate as a bench a lot or work just anywhere. I could do stuff in the garage and prob will some but I'd like to try outside with the fresh air.

Spring really flew by for me, didn't get most of what i wanted done.

I called the yard this morning for price.
It was up! It was $1.38, it's now at $1.47.
I can't believe this is even real.
My goal was 1,000 lbs. for the week.

76 wheels for the week.
I had to make 2 trips.
1,740 pounds.
$2,557 cash money. 🤑

FBMP is a fucking gold mine.
I hope like hell it lasts a while.

If you guys can figure out a place to store old tires on your property, I'd suggest giving this wheel hustle a try. There's nothing to sort, nothing to take apart/separate (appliances), no wires to strip, no multiple trips across the scale, no driving around 'hoping' to find a few scores. Nothing but easy money, go get some. :)

I'm glad your doing well :) but I doubt it's the same for some areas(i know mine isn't). Be ready to shift, if things dry up or slow down.

I already have 48 wheels out back for this week.
I only picked on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Spent time with my chick all day Monday. :)
That's the good news.

The bad news is, of the 48, only 8 are already bare. :(
Tomorrow morning is gonna be a marathon cutting.
I'm completely out of room behind the house.
Mounted wheels take up a lot of space.

Check out MP in your area.
I'm sure deals are out there.

This area is HIGHLY over scrapped and as I've stated MP is VERY VERY VERY competitive!!! People try n sell their scrap LOL

Again glad it works out for you in your area. Dozens of scrappers are on MP all day everyday looking for scrap around here. That is why the yards pay less because so many are scrapping.

Hypothetically, of course.. ;)

Is it possible to put a larger cutting disk on a 4.5" angle grinder?
If it is, I want to do it. I know the guard has to come off.
I'm not too worried about injury.
I wear heavy gloves, shield, and glasses when using the angle grinder.
