A Gary Burgin post
Let’s talk facts.
Bracket racing is the true test of a driver’s skill. We’re talking about a sport where a fraction of an inch at the starting line — just one misstep — can send you red and end your day. The margin for error is razor-thin on both ends. At the big end of the track, you’re not just holding it wide open — you’re driving with your eyes, your brain, and your foot, trying not to go too fast… because breaking out means you lose.
And here’s what most people don’t understand:
The real precision in drag racing isn’t in going fast. It’s in being consistent. It’s in knowing your car down to the thousandth, in cutting a light, hitting your number, and doing it round after round.
Meanwhile, a lot of “fast car” guys? Let’s be real — they’ve got backup help to stage, deep pockets to build horsepower, and many don’t even know what a good reaction time looks like unless their transbrake guy tells them.
They build 1,000+ HP monsters, and then expect the whole industry to throw sponsorships their way like it’s deserved — just because they’re fast.
But they chose that build.
They chose the money route.
Bracket racers, on the other hand, are the ones doing more with less.
They tune, wrench, drive, and hustle with everything they’ve got — often on a tight budget — and still show up, week in and week out.
No big trailer. No crew. Just passion, precision, and a prayer.
And yet… who gets the sponsors?
Not the ones showing true driving ability. Not the ones keeping local tracks alive. Not the ones bringing their kids out and building the next generation of racers.
That needs to change.
If you want to grow this sport — start with the bracket racers.
Educate the public on what it really takes to win.
Support the racers who make the track their second home.
And tell the industry: Stop chasing speed. Start recognizing skill.
You don’t start drag racing in a Pro Mod — you start in the staging lanes with an old ride, a delay box, and a dream.
Grassroots is where racing begins.
Bracket racing is where drivers are made.
