Looks like some crafty people pulled off a big score.

Copied from a TRE Facebook post:

We need some help from the racing community!!! last week We had a person (piece of shit) contact us saying he was interested in a 959 we have for sale on the Internet after going back-and-forth for two days. He said he also was interested in a 4840 we had for sale, after agreeing on a price for the two engines, a brand new MM transmission and Neal chance lock up converter. I told The potential customer once the money was wired into our account, everything would be good for pick up and gave him our wiring instructions. Saturday morning we had an incoming deposit for the full amount of the two engines that showed good on our Wells Fargo account. He says he had sent a Hotshot service to our shop that showed up after lunch Saturday. We loaded both engines, strap them down and covered them up and the Hotshot was on His Way.. Monday , the customer called and said he was gonna have a girl drop by and pick up the transmission and converter Tuesday morning… Wells Fargo, my bank contacted me Tuesday and said we had fraud on our account and the checks would be returned to us and I was confused what checks??? low and behold this scam artist customer used some new method of scamming on a check deposit for $142,950 into our account, the agreed upon price. not by wire, by some scam method and I actually have no money for the transaction. Wells Fargo removed it all. I don’t have the guys face yet, I do have the woman’s picture and vehicle that showed up Tuesday to pick up the transmission and converter. I don’t have her name but she was wearing an Alabama shirt, her license plate is covered up in our camera by a license cover, I have been on the phones nonstop for 24 hours straight trying to track down this guy, I tracked down the Hotshot service and the engines were delivered to Tuscaloosa, Alabama but the scammer paid one of my customers to use his house and driveway and Cherry picker to offload the engines on his own personal truck and leave. which he intern wrote our customer a hot check also for shocks and the delivery. my customer said he only met him at the races recently in Montgomery. were looking for any more information on these two engines, transmission and converters. I’ve already filed a full report with the police and they have been our premises. I have filed the report with FBI Beaumont Texas. I have spoke to FBI Tuscaloosa Alabama. I also spoke to the Tuscaloosa police department, this individual went into Wells Fargo Tuscaloosa Alabama and made this transaction as soon as the police or FBI can get into that Wells Fargo. Hopefully they will get a picture of this individual and I can forward it over. I’m looking for any help we can get, this is a devastating loss and because it’s theft it even hits harder I’m offering $10,000 cash for anybody that can assist in the return of these two engines transmission and converter, I’ve already got a few beating the ground badasses looking for the parts. but it looks like the people are based somewhere around Tuscaloosa. I also have the man’s phone number that he used to do all this business. He goes by Kelvin Stevens as you will see written on his check, and he told me his name was Kelvin Steven I don’t believe that’s who it is but right now that’s all we have to go on, again Any information will help!! the 959 is one of our standard pro mod type engines 6 systems, except we put full polished billet valve covers on it instead of our normal black ones, the 4840 engine is an energy billet block combo, twin throttlebody three systems. The Mark Micke transmission is brand new in a bag and I will get the serial number on it. Also the Neil Chance converter is a pm lockup. PME please with any info I hope to get pictures of this snake ASAP. Your help is very appreciated.!

If anyone has the pics to post of the people in question I'd keep a lookout.

I'm glad he posted and shared. A new scam obviously.

If I see money in the bank I'm going to assume it is there.

Never thought otherwise.

i had a customer a few yrs ago, i sent over a invoice with payment link for ach payment, he would enter his acct numbers and process and quickbooks would do the transaction, payment processed, lands in the account, 2 days later i get the money pulled out, the guy entered the wrong info. i was totally freaked, it was around 8k. he entered the wrong bank info and it was resolved. but even wires can go wrong

If you click on that YB article, which I understand if people don't want to, there are security camera pictures posted. I can't copy and paste them in this thread, I already tried.

That sucks , when you think you have all the bases covered they come up with a new scam. Cash is king , IMO he was nuts to let 170K worth of parts out of his sight without going to a bank with the buyer to make sure everything was on the up and up. Any buyer who would not agree to that I would not do business with when that type of $$ was on the line. And anyone spending that type of money would be a fool to not want to inspect the engines and transmission in person cause they could be getting scammed into buying junk . Them not wanting to do that would be a big old red flag to me.

How in the fuck does something like this scam even happen…. ???

I go to Zelle my GF 1500 bucks, and Wells Fargo’s
“Fraud dept” flags and shuts down the transaction all the time… drives me fucking crazy .. go to PayPal and the transaction goes right thru…

But allow a 145k transaction on a hot check to sail right through?
Good work, Wells Fargo “Fraud dept”
GTFOH…
:asskik:
