A hyd pump that works in both directions, in and out. How do you wire a 2 button push button switch to work directionally with just 3 wires? What changes the direction of the pump?

Does it runs off a reverse polarity relay? If so it switches directions based on which side gets gets power and ground as you press the switch

For example, (with the reverse polarity relay)

when you push one way on the switch it will send ground left and power right. (Out of the relay)

When you push the other direction on the switch it will send ground right and power left. (Out of the relay)

Hope that makes sense, otherwise I'll end up drawing on a napkin

Ok I screwed this up. The motor runs in same direction. There are 2 coils?? On the pump that determines which direction the fluid goes. The problem is either way you operate the push button it signals both coils and dead heads the fluid. I added a push button to the switch box as to simulate reversing polarity so it’ll work in both directions.

I have a couple of things like that, a bin tipper, and hydraulic ramps on a truck. Both electric motors turning a hydraulic pump, but polarity never changes.

The direction change is done by another hydraulic valve (mechanical) with a 2 way lever on it which will flip the direction of fluid flow from one side of the rams to the other.

On my log loaders the remote to tilt the cab and stand it backup for transport is on a 2 way switch like that, it runs to a solenoid.
I will look at it tomorrow morning for you.

Not sure what you're using it for, but I use trombetta relays for running 12vdc motors at work. Made in USA ones last 4x as long.

I might be way off base with what you're trying to do, but this is how it's wired.

You’re close. The coils that control direction are on the valve. This is the goofiest system I’ve ever seen. I’ll be home in a couple days and I’ll post pics of the system. What has me really confused is the leads going to the coils. It like 1 signal wire that y’s off and connects to each coil. The goofy part is 1 of the leads to a coil has a diode in it. I understand a diode and it’s purpose. Maybe I can post some pics for better help in understanding. Fkn wiring drives me nuts!!!

Is there just 2 power connectors? Here's what "might" be goin on if so
Older winch/ starter motors that ARE NOT permanent magnet, I call them "wound field" you can NOT reverse them with polarity. In fact if you can somehow get power to it, a wound field starter/ winch motor will even run on AC--just like older electric drills

So this means that reversing polarity on the pump may not change pump motor direction

BUT if you hook the valve coils to the same terminals, AND put series diodes into each coil circuit--in opposite directions, the diodes will block one coil each polarity.....so reversing polarity will energize the opposite coil

The video tells a lot. Either the switches have to be double pole (DPST) or there has to be blocking diodes from each switch to keep both valves from activating / due to feedback through the motor solenoid circuit
